Counterfeit bills found in Kensington

Kensington Police confiscated two $100 bills from Kensington area businesses this morning.
The counterfeit currency has the identifiable characteristics of the serial number BKL5515912 and the silver vertical strips had been cut from $10 bills and glued onto the $100.
The person who handed in the bills was taken in for questioning but Police were satisfied he did not know the bills were counterfeit at the time and didn’t produce them.
Kensington Police chief Lewie Sutherland said he expects there to be more than just the two bills in circulation.
“I expect there’s more than two but I would say sometimes it takes a while for these to show up depending where they came from.”
Sutherland said the best thing store owners can do is make their employees aware the bills are circulating and to be attentive.
“It’s obvious if you took two seconds to look at this bill it’s got a $10 stripe on it not a $100 stripe,” he said. “Although on first glance it looks good, when you look at it a second time it doesn’t.”
He said the investigation is ongoing and urges any stores to call their local police department with counterfeit bills.

Prince William and Kate to stop in Summerside

The royal couple visit to Summerside will be meaningful for its Veterans, said George Dalton, President of the Summerside historical society.
The world famous newlyweds will be in Summerside on July 4th. Dalton said he hopes to get the pair to stop by and present a stone at the Memorial Park they are working on at the former air base in Slemon Park.
Dalton said the visit will be great for Veterans who served under the Union Jack and in the British Commonwealth Air Training Program, which is celebrating it’s 70th anniversary and included Kate Middleton’s grandfather, during World War two and for war brides who immigrated to Summerside with their husbands they met during the war.
“I think the Veterans should be certainly on the frontlines of any greeting that takes place,” he said. “Especially the ones we have living here who flew in the British Air Training Program.”
Dalton said though the visit will be good for the older generation, it was also exciting for the younger generations.
“The buzz that’s centered around them is not just a historical buzz but symbolism of hope for the future. A celebrity type appeal,” he said. “You have to have positive influence in the world today.”
Dalton said that Summerside has also been partial to the Royals in his experience. From the royal exhibit held at Eptek, to the royal wedding celebrations.
“There’s great respect for Royalty here.”
Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart said he is delighted to have the Royal’s come to Summerside.
“We’re to try and find out what their location will be. These plans are all made by their crowd. Now that we’ve got an official word that they’re going to be here we’re going to try and contact the people who make the decisions to see what the visit will include in Summerside.”
Stewart said they had sent out invitations and Monday was the first time they had heard anything official.
“As soon as we heard they were coming to the Island we sent out an invitation to Buckingham Palace, to the prime minister, to premier and the MLAs and the lieutenant governor.”
The regal pair is also planning to visit Charlottetown on July 3rd. They are going to be starting in Ottawa and the region from June 30 to July 2, then traveling to Montreal and Quebec City. Yellowknife and Calgary will be the last stops on the tour.

Rogers Retains Title

The fight between Steve Rogers and Ricky Goodall has been ruled no contest after it was determined Goodall had caught Rogers with a knee to the groin before locking in the choke that ended the fight.
The controversial fight was originally slated as a title fight, until Goodall could not get his weight below the maximum allowed for the class. Rogers appealed the decision a few days after the May 7 card.
Rogers was disappointed in the way the fight went after one of his best training camps but plans on having a rematch with Goodall in the future.
“I’m anxious to get back in there. That was probably one of my best training camps and I was definitely ready to fight.”
He said he was happy the decision was overturned after all the work he did to prepare for the fight.
“Its pretty controversial because that’s not something the commissions do very often anywhere,” he said. “There was a lot of speculation (about the fight).”
